Q 1 - The average age of 80 girls was 20 years, the average age of 20 of them was 22 years and that of another 20 was 24 years. Find the average age of the remaining girls.

Answer : A

Explanation

Total age of remaining 40 girls = (80*20 - 20*22 ? 20*24)
= (1600-440-480)
= 680 years
Therefore average age for the 40 girls = 680/40 = 17 years

Q 2 - In a family the average age of the father and mother is 38 years whereas the average age of father, mother and their only daughter is 28 years. Then the age of the daughter is -

Explanation

The age of the daughter = (3*28) - (2*38)
= 84 - 76
=  8 years

Q 3 - The ratio of the present ages of a son and his father is 1:5 and that of his mother and father is 4: 5. After 2 years the ratio of the ages of the son to that of his mother becomes 3 : 10. What is the present age of the father?

Explanation

Let the present age of the son be x years.
 present age of the father = 5x years and that of the mother = 4x years.

2 years hence, age of son = (x + 2) years
And age of the will be = (4x + 2) years

As per the question,
(x + 2)/(4x + 2) = 3/10
Or, 10 (x+2) = 3 (4x + 2)
Or, 10x + 20 = 12x + 6
Or, 2x = 14
Or, x = 7
Present age of father = 5x = 5*7 = 35 years

Q 4 - A man five times older in the comparison of his son in the present time but before the period of 5 year the father age in the comparison of his son was 10 times older . Find out present age of the father?

Explanation

Let the present age of the son be x year. Then , present age of the man  = 5x year
∴  (5x-5 = 10 (x-5) ⇒ 5x= 45 ⇒ x = 9
Age at the present time of the father is = (5*9) = 45 year

Q 5 - If 100 year is equal to the sum of the ages of father and son. 2:1 was the ratio of father and son before the period of 5 years . Find out the ratio of ages which would be after the period 10 year.

Explanation

If x is the father  age ,then son age will be (100-x)
x-5/ (100-x)-5 =2/1 ⇒ (x-5)= 2(95-x)  ⇒ x =-5= 190 -2x ⇒ 3x =195 ⇒ x =65
father age = 65 yrs. And son age = 100-65 = 35 year
required ratio = (65+10) / (35+10) =75/45 = 5:3

Q 6 - If the age of a mother is 3 times in the comparison of her daughter before the period of 10 year . 10 year later from the present date , the mother age would be 2 times of her daughter. In that situation what should be the age ratio of them at the present time?

Explanation

If the x year is the present age of her daughter.
Mother age 10 year ago = 3(x-10) = (3x-30) year
Present age of the mother = ( 3x-30+10) = (3x-20) year
After 10 year age of the mother = (3x-20 +10) = (3x-10) year
Son age after the period of 10 year = (x+10) year
∴  (3x-10) = 2(x+10) ⇒ x = 30
Mother present age = (3x-20) year = 70 years.
Daughter present age = 30 years.
Required ratio =  70: 30 = 7:3

Explanation

Let mother age be4 x year and her daughter age is x year.
4x*x = 196 ⇒ x² = 49 ⇒ x = 7
Present age of mother is 7*4 = 28 year and son present age = 7 years.
Required ratio = (28+5) : (7+5) = 33 : 12   = 11 : 4

Q 8 - Before the period of 5 year, the age of vijay was 1/3 of the age in the comparison from vipin. The present age of vijay is 17 year , in that situation find out the present age of vipin?

Explanation

Let vijay age 5 years  ago be x years. Then, vipin age 5 years ago = 3x years.
x+5 = 17  ⇒ x = 12
present age of vipin = (3*12+5) = 41 yrs.

Q 9 - Before the period of 16 year, my grandfather was 8 times older in the comparison of me. He would be 3 times of my age 8 years now. Find out the ratio of my grandfather and my age before the period of 8 year.

Explanation

Let my age 16 yrs ago be x years.
My grandfather age at that time = 8x years
My present  age = (x+16) yrs.
My grandfather present age = (8x+16) years.
3(x+16+8)= (8x+16+8) ⇒ 3x+72 = 8x+24  ⇒ 5x = 48 ⇒ x = 48/5
Ratio of our  ages  8 yrs ago =  (x+16-8) /(8x+16-8) = x+8/ 8x+8
 (48/5+8)/ (8* 48/5 +5) = 88/424 = 11 :53.

Q 10 - The age of the father was 38 years when he was born at that time the age of the mother was 36 years old while his brother was 4 year younger to his was born. What should be the difference between the age of father and mother?

Explanation

Let age of child be x yrs.
His father age = (38+x) years
His mother age =  36 + (x-4) = (32+x ) years
Difference of the ages of father and mother = 6 years.
