Rajya Sabha has adopted a motion to send the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament. The ten-member committee will be headed by BJP MP Bhupendra Yadav.
The panel will have 20 members from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha. Currently, there are no laws on the use of personal data and preventing its misuse, although the Supreme Court upheld the right to privacy as a fundamental right back in 2017.
