List the reasons for the destruction of forests.
Some of the causes for the decline of forests in the last 200 years are,
- Urbanization
- Industrialization
- Cutting of trees illegally for sandalwood, etc.
There are also some natural causes like forest fires.
Recently forest fires have destroyed huge areas of forests, thus killing many endemic plants and animals.
Other reasons for deforestation or destruction of forests are:
Expansion: if people want to settle somewhere an if no land found there, then they can cut off the trees and settle there.
Medicines: Medicinal plants are often cut off to make medicines.
Industries: Industries need heavy wood to perform their activities. So they cut the forests for wood.
