List five products we get from forests.
Five products that we get from forests are given below:
- We get medicines from forests: Medicinal plants are those plants that have certain compounds which help us. Plants synthesize many chemical compounds for their functions including defense against insects, fungi, diseases, and herbivorous mammals. These compounds are also effective for humans. Example: Aloe, Tulsi, Neem, Turmeric and Ginger cure several common ailments.
- We get gums and resins from forests: Plants secrete gums and resins in response to injury or environmental stress. Resins protect plants from insects and pathogens. The scents associated with them confuse a variety of potentially harmful herbivores and insects.
- We get wood which is used for many purposes like making furniture, paper etc.: The wood of several trees like Sheesham is used to make different types of furniture.
- We get food for animals from forests: In a forest, animals like voles and woodlice feed on plant roots and barks respectively. Different types of fruits are eaten by different animals like monkeys and gorillas. Herbivores totally depend on plants for their food.
- We get sealing wax from forests: Sealing wax is made from beeswax. So, these are also the products of the forest.
