A circular park is surrounded by a road 21 m wide. If the radius of the park is 105 m, find the area of the road.

Given:

A circular park is surrounded by a road 21 m wide.

The radius of the park is 105 m

To do:

We have to find the area of the road.

Solution:

Let the radius of the circular pond be $r$ and the width of the path be $w$.

This implies,

Radius of the outer circle $R=r+w$

$R=105+21$

$R=126\ m$

Area of the road $=$ Area of the outer circle $-$ Area of the park

$=\pi (126)^2-\pi (105)^2$

$=\frac{22}{7}(15876-11025)$

$=\frac{22}{7}\times4851$

$=22\times693$

$=15246\ m^2$

The area of the road is $15246\ m^2$.
