A square plot of area 400 $m^2$ is surrounded by a path which is 2 m wide. Find the area of the path.
Given:
A square plot of area 400 $m^2$ is surrounded by a path which is 2 m wide.
To do:
We have to find the area of the path.
Solution:
Area of square plot = 400 sq.m.
Area of square = side $\times$ side
400 = side $\times$ side
400 = side 2
√400 = side
Side = 20 m
Side of the square plot = 20 m
Width of path around the plot = 2 m
So, side of outer square = width of path $+$ side of square plot $+$ width of path
Side of outer square = 2 $+$ 20 $+$ 2 m
Side of outer square = 24 m
Area of outer square = 24 $\times$ 24 m2
Area of outer square = 576 $m^2$
Area of path = Area of outer square $-$ Area of square plot
Area of path = (576 $-$ 400) m2
The area of the path is 176 sq.m.
