A rectangular park is 45m long and 30m wide. A path 2.5 m wide is constructed outside the park. Find the area of the path.

Given:

A rectangular park is 45 m long and 30 m wide. A path 2.5 m wide is constructed outside the park.

To do:

We have to find the area of the path.

Solution:

We know that,

Area of a rectangle of length $l$ and breadth $b$ is $lb$.

Therefore,

Area of the garden = $45\times30\ m^2$

$=1350\ m^2$

Area of the outer rectangle including the park $= (45+2.5+2.5)\times(30+2.5+2.5)\ m^2$

$=50\times35\ m^2$

$=1750\ m^2$

This implies,

Area of the path $=$ Area of the outer rectangle $-$ Area of the garden

$=(1750-1350)\ m^2$

$=400\ m^2$.

The area of the path is $400\ m^2$.
