What are the reasons behind the falling fertility rate in India?

A significant decline in the fertility rate in India has been observed in the past a few years. This fall is partly due to the embracement of Millennium Development Goals (MDG) that were established in 2000. The drive for the extremely poor family to have only a manageable family which has led to reduced fertility.

Following are the other reasons for the drop in fertility in India −

  • Increased focus on family planning,
  • Increase in wages,
  • Reduced subsistence agriculture and
  • Increase in the education level of the women.
