Naming the quadrant or axis of a point given its coordinates
In this lesson, we are given the coordinates of points. We have to find in which quadrant the given points lie or on which axis the given points lie.
We identify the quadrant from the signs of the coordinates of the points given. We also identify the axis on which the points lie if one their coordinates is a zero.
Name the quadrant or axis of the following point.
(−7, 3)
Solution
Step 1 − The point in the graph has coordinates (−7, 3).
Step 2 − The given point (−7, 3) lies in the quadrant 2 as its x and y coordinates are negative and positive respectively.
Name the quadrant or axis of the following point.
Solution
Step 1 − The point in the graph has coordinates (−2, −5).
Step 2 − The given point (−2, −5) lies in the quadrant 3 as both its x and y coordinates are negative.
