"

To do:

We have to write the fractions and find whether the given fractions are equivalent.

Solution:

(a)

(i) There are two parts in total and 1 part is shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{1}{2}$

(ii) There are four parts in total and 2 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{2}{4}$

$=\frac{1}{2}$

(iii) There are six parts in total and 3 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{3}{6}$

$=\frac{1}{2}$

(iv) There are eight parts in total and 4 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{4}{8}$

$=\frac{1}{2}$

Here, all the fractions are equivalent.

(b)

(i) There are twelve parts in total and 4 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{4}{12}$

$=\frac{1}{3}$

(ii) There are 9 parts in total and 3 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{3}{9}$

$=\frac{1}{3}$

(iii) There are six parts in total and 2 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{2}{6}$

$=\frac{1}{3}$

(iv) There are fifteen parts in total and 6 parts are shaded.

Therefore,

The fraction representing the shaded portion $=\frac{6}{15}$

$=\frac{2}{5}$

Here, all the fractions are not equivalent.
