What is a Venn diagram

Venn diagram is a diagram representing mathematical or logical sets pictorially as circles or closed curves within an enclosing rectangle (the universal set), common elements of the sets being represented by intersections of the circles.

Example of a Venn diagram showing three overlapping sets of items.

Venn diagrams enable students to organize information visually so they are able to see the relationships between two or three sets of items. They can then identify similarities and differences. A Venn diagram consists of overlapping circles.
