How to create the Venn diagram in Excel?


Introduction

Microsoft Excel is an efficient tool that is used to create interactive charts that more precisely visualize the data. Professionals are said to utilize charts as a tool for graphically communicating ideas or sharing data. Among them, the Venn diagram facilitates the relationships between the defined data in the given range or items that consist of three circles by default, each of which specifies the column data. In this article, we will learn how to insert the basic Venn diagram into the Excel worksheet.

To Insert the Venn Diagram in Excel

Step 1

Deliberate an Excel sheet, switch to the “Insert” tab, and then click on the “Illustrations” tile, and then click on the “SmartArt” option.

Once the user clicks on SmartArt, another dialog box named “Choose a SmartArt Graphic” will appear on the screen. Select the “Relations” section and then choose the “Basic Venn” option and then click on “OK” as shown below −

Therefore, the Venn diagram is displayed in the specified worksheet, delete the [Text] part from this diagram. The resultant Venn diagram is shown below −

Suppose users wish to add the Triangle shape to the Venn diagram. To achieve this, switch to the Insert tab, select the “Illustrations” tile, click on the “Shapes” tile, and then choose the “Triangle” option as highlighted in the below image.

Now, simply drag the triangle to the Venn diagram as shown below −

Insert the List of Players Along With Their Respective Games in the Venn diagram

Step 1

You must create a table comprising three columns heading “Cricket”, “Hockey” and “Badminton” and write the following players' names in this table −

Move to the “Insert” tab, go to the “Illustrations” tile, and then choose the “SmartArt” option.

Step 3

Once the user clicks on SmartArt, another dialog box named “Choose a SmartArt Graphic” will appear on the screen. Select the “Relations..” section and then choose the “Basic Venn” option and then click on “OK” as shown below −

The Venn diagram would be embedded in the worksheet. Click on the Text area and give the proper heading “Cricket”, “Hockey” and “Badminton” in these circles.

Now, we must add the team members in these respective circles. To accomplish this, click on the “Insert” tab and then select the “Text” tile, choose the “Text Box” option and drop it just below all the game headings and the common area as given below.

Step 6

Now, write the entries of the individual team members who played only “Cricket” and fill in the required color to the textbox for more visibility. Note that, Daniel and Harry are common players who played all games. So, these names would come in the common area of the Venn diagram.

Step 7

Repeat the similar steps for the remaining two games, list the names of team members in the respective textboxes of the other circles adjust the font size, and expand the size of the circles. Daniel and Harry are the players who played all three games. Enter their name in the textbox in the common area of all three games.
