What is a habitat?

A habitat is a place in the natural world where a certain kind of creature lives. In its environment, a species can find food, shelter, defense against predators, and a mate for sexual reproduction.

Ponds, for instance, are a fish's natural habitat. Birds and monkeys can be seen in trees.
