To find: We have to find the number.

Solution: 

Let the number be = a

$\frac{5}{2}$ of the number = $\frac{5a}{2}$

Now according to the problem:

$\frac{5a}{2}$ - 7 = 23

$\frac{5a}{2}$ = 23 + 7

$\frac{5a}{2}$ = 30

a = $\ \frac{30\ \times \ 2}{5}$

a = 12

So, the required number is 12.
