The number of boys in a class is 5 less than twice the number of girls in the class if the total number of boys is 23 find the total number of students in the class
Given: Number of boys is 5 less than twice the number of girls.
Total boys are 23
To do: Find the number of students in the class.
Solution:
Number of boys = $23$
Number of girls = $x$
Convert his into equation,
$ 23 = 2 x - 5$
rewrite,
$2 x - 5 = 23$
$2 x = 23 + 5$
$2 x = 28$
$ x = \frac{28}{ 2}$
$ x = 14$
So, the number of girls = 14
Total number students = Number of boys $+$ Number of girls
= $23 + 14 = 37$
So, total number students = 37
