Class interval:	0-8	8-16	16-24	24-32	32-40
Frequency:	5	9	10	8	8.

We have to find the mean of the given frequency distribution.

Solution:

Let the assumed mean be $A=20$

 We know that,

Mean $=A+\frac{\sum{f_id_i}}{\sum{f_i}}$    

Therefore,  

Mean $=20+\frac{40}{40}$

$=20+1$

$=21$

The mean of the given frequency distribution is $21$.
