We have to find the mean of the given frequency distribution.

Solution:

Let the assumed mean be $A=42$

 We know that,

Mean $=A+\frac{\sum{f_id_i}}{\sum{f_i}}$    

Therefore,  

Mean $=42+(\frac{-395}{70})$

$=42-5.643$

$=36.357$

The mean of the given frequency distribution is $36.357$.
