Polynomials: Polynomials are expressions in which each term is a constant multiplied by a variable raised to a whole number power.

$sqrt{2} x^{3} +5x^{2}$$5x^3-4x^2+1/2$ is a polynomial because of the variables in the terms are raised to a whole number of power.

$x^{2} +frac{1}{x}$(ii) $\sqrt{3} z^{2} -5\sqrt{z+6}$ is not a polynom$$ial because the term $-5\sqrt{z+6} =-5( z+6)^{\frac{1}{2}}$  and in this term the variable (z) is raised to the power $-1$$\sqrt{3} z^{2} -5\sqrt{z+6}$ is not a polynomial.
