How to Copy a Column Width in Excel?


In Excel, when we type the data, adjusting the cell size is one of the time-consuming processes as we need to manually adjust the cells. When we copy the cells to another location, if we need to adjust the cells every time, it can be a time waste. Read this tutorial to will learn how you can copy column width in Excel. Copying Column Width Formatting Only

Here, we will first copy the data in the default way and use the paste special function. Let's go over a simple procedure for copying column width formatting in Excel.

Step 1

Let us consider an Excel sheet where the data in the cell with empty cells has an adjusted width similar to the below image.

Select the range of cells you want to copy and use the command CTRL + C to copy the data, then click on the cell where you want to paste the data and right-click and click on "Paste Special," then select Paste Special to open the pop-up.

Select data > CTRL + C > Empty cell > Right click > Paste special > Paste special

Step 2

Then, in the pop-up window, click on column widths and click OK to complete our task.

Copying Column Width with Data

Here, we will first copy the data in the default manner and use the paste special to complete our task. Let's take a look at a simple procedure for copying column width with data in Excel.

Step 1

Consider the following image of an Excel sheet containing data with the width adjusted. 

Select the range of cells you want to copy and use the command CTRL + C to copy the data, then click on the cell where you want to paste the data and right-click and click on paste special, then select keep source column width, and our result will be similar to the below image.

Select data > CTRL + C > Right click > Paste special > Keep source width
