Why did Miss America end The Swimsuit Competition?
The Miss America Organization team had announced that the contest is eliminating its swimsuit competition completely. This news made some fans and former contestants to welcome the move as a sign of progress and liberation from a mode of judging women on their physical appearances.
This year, the women participants had no longer walked the ramp in swimsuits, and it happened mainly because of the judgment. The Judges opined that Miss America should be selected based on their brains, and should not be judged only on their physical appearance. The Panel said that "contestants will no longer be judged on their appearances but on what they say during the competition".
Gretchen Carlson, the chairwoman of the Miss America board of directors, shared the news and announced that the event will be a competition and not a pageant now.
