The International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on 21st June since its inception in 2015. A three day National Yoga Olympiad on the eve of this year's International Yoga day has begun in New Delhi at NCERT in CEIT, which is a 3-day program. The program was inaugurated by Mr.Eric Falt, Director, and UNESCO representative of New Delhi cluster office for India and surrounding countries.
This is conducted for the third consecutive year, and gaining popularity every passing year. This year about 500 students from 26 states and 4 RIEs are participating in the Olympiad. The Director of NCERT in his welcome address has observed that Olympiad is creating awareness about a scientific and holistic way of living and thereby creating a positive attitude among the people.
The Indian Prime Minister, Sri Narendra Modi said, “It is our responsibility to ensure that the right spirit of yoga is conveyed to everyone”.
It is in this backdrop that the Olympiad is organized to create a sense of unity and understanding among children, who have traveled from different parts of the country – both from rural and urban areas, to participate in the Olympiad.
A mesmerizing yoga performance was given by the young students from Government Girls school from Rewari, Haryana, and Students from Girls School of Kerala. Two books – Joy of Theatre and Sangeet— training packages were released on this occasion.
