What is roughage or dietary fibre?

Roughage or Dietary Fibre
Dietary fiber or roughage is the portion of plant-based food that cannot be completely broken down by human digestive enzymes. It is the fibrous indigestible material in vegetable foodstuffs which aids the passage of food and waste products through the gut. It helps in the proper elimination of waste products.  It's an important food source for the beneficial bacteria in your gut. It may also aid weight management and decrease certain risk factors for heart disease.

Fibre, also known as 'roughage', is the part of the food that is not digested by the body. It is only available from foods of plant origin such as unrefined cereals, wholemeal flour, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and pulses such as peas, beans, and lentils.

However, it's an important food source for the beneficial bacteria in your gut.
