Vidya and Pratap went for a picnic. Their mother gave them a water bottle that contained 5 litres of water. Vidya consumed $\frac{2}{5}$ of the water. Pratap consumed the remaining water.
1. How much water did Vidya drink?
2. What fraction of the total quantity of water did Pratap drink?

Given :

The capacity of water in the bottle = 5 L

Water consumed by Vidya = $\frac{2}{5}$ of water in the bottle.

To find :

How much water did Vidya drink?

What fraction of the total quantity of water did Pratap drink?

Solution :

The volume of water = 5 L

Vidya consumed $\frac{2}{5}$ of Water

                =  $\frac{2}{5} \times5$ L =  2 L

The volume of water Vidya drinks = 2 L

So, the volume of water Pratap drink = Volume of water in the bottle $-$ Volume of

water Vidya drink

                                                            $ = 5-2$ L = 3 L

Volume of water pratap drink = 3 L

So, Pratap drinks 3 L out if 5 L water.

Therefore,

The fraction of the total quantity of water Pratap drank = $\frac{3}{5}$.
