The management ensures a pupil-teacher ratio of 20:1 in primary school and 30:1 in middle school. If 340 students were there in the primary school and 450 students in the middle school, find the ratio of the primary school teachers to the middle school teachers.

Given :

Pupil-teacher ratio in primary school $= 20:1$

Pupil-Teacher ratio in middle school $= 30:1$

Number of students in primary school $= 340$

Number of students in middle school $= 450$

To do :

We have to find the ratio of primary school teachers to middle school teachers.

Solution :

Let number of teachers in the primary school be x and number of teachers in the middle school be y.

Therefore,

$\frac{340}{x} = \frac{20}{1}$

$340 \times 1 = 20 \times (x)$

$x = \frac{340}{20}$

$x = 17$

And,

$\frac{450}{y} = \frac{30}{1}$

$450 \times 1 = 30 \times y$

$y = \frac{450}{30}$

$y = 15$

The ratio of primary school teachers to the middle school teachers $= x: y = 17: 15$.

Therefore, the ratio of primary school teachers to middle school teachers is $17:15$.
