Suppose 2kg of sugar contains $9 \times 10^{6}$ crystals.
How many sugar crystals are therein:(i) 5 kg of sugar? (ii) 1.2 kg of sugar?

Given: 2kg of sugar contains $9 \times 10^{6}$

To Do : Find how many crystal of sugar in 5kg and 1.2 kg

Solution:

Given number of crystals in 2 kg sugar=$9 \times 10^{6}$

So, number of crystals in 1 kg sugar =$\frac{9}{2}\times10^6$
                                                                  = $4.5 \times10^6$
(i) Number of crystals in 1 kg sugar = 4.5 x 106^{6}
    Therefore, number of crystals in 5 kg of sugar = $5 \times 4.5\times10^6$
                                                                       = $22.5 \times10^6$
(ii) Number of crystals in 1 kg sugar =$ 4.5\times10^6$
     Therefore, number of crystals in 1.2 kg of sugar = $1.2 \times 4.5 \times10^6$
                                                                       = $5.4 \times10^6$
