Litmus can be used to test materials for acidity and basicity.

Blue litmus paper turns red under acid conditions. 

Red litmus paper turns blue under alkaline conditions.

Neutral litmus paper is purple in colour.

ACTIVITY

• Given a solution, A is taken in a test tube.
• A few drops of solution A is placed on blue Litmus paper and Red Litmus paper. 

If Blue litmus changes its colour to red, then the solution is Acidic in nature,

If Red litmus changes its colours to blue, then the solution is Basic in nature.
