Out of HCl and CH3COOH, which one is a weak acid and why? Explain with the help of an example.

Out of HCL and CH3COOH, CH3COOH is a weak acid because its pH is higher than the pH value of hydrochloric acid.
It can be demonstrated with the help of the following activity:
  • Put some drops of dilute ethanoic acid on the universal indicator paper. It is observed that the pH is found to be around 4,
  • Repeat the same with the hydrochloric acid. It is found that the pH of HCl is about 1. This proves that HCI is a strong acid than Ethanoic acid.
