How to add fractional numbers?

$1\ +\ \frac{1}{2} \ +\ \frac{1}{4}$


Given: $1+\ \frac{1}{2} \ +\ \frac{1}{4}$

To find: We have to find the value of $1+\ \frac{1}{2} \ +\ \frac{1}{4}$

Solution:

$1+\ \frac{1}{2} \ +\ \frac{1}{4}$

Taking LCM of all denominators, we get 

=$\frac{1( 4) \ +\ 1( 2) \ +\ 1( 1)}{4}$

= $\frac{( 4) \ +\ ( 2) \ +\ ( 1)}{4} \ =\ \frac{7}{4}$
