An aluminium cane is used to store ferrous sulphate solution. It is observed that in few days holes appeared in the cane. Explain the observation and write the chemical equation for it.
As Aluminium is more reactive than iron, it displaces iron from its sulphate solution. Aluminium sulphate is formed and iron is precipitated. This is why holes appear in Aluminium cane.
$2Al\ +\ 3FeSO_{4} \ \rightarrow \ Al_{2}( SO_{4})_{3} \ +3\ Fe$
