How to treat scalp scabs? Please suggest.


Scabs are basically the crusty areas that are slightly raised or they could also be like patches on the scalp. Scabs differ in their appearance as some scabs are yellowish whereas the others are either reddish, black or dark brown. Scabs can become very itchy and they can also bleed sometimes.

Here are some home remedies that can be used to treat scabs.

Warm compress

In order to carry out this method of treatment for scabs, you will need a towel. First, you should soak the towel in hot water and then squeeze out the excess water. Once this is done then you should wrap the towel around your head and leave it for 10-15 minutes. The heat that is radiated from the towel on to the head will slowly soften the scabs. Once this is done then you can comb your hair in order to get rid of the scabs. This should be done once every day.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is a powerful antibacterial element that has a lot of antifungal properties. When this is applied to your head, the Ph levels in the Vinegar helps in relieving the itching and dryness of the scalp. We can mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into a cup of warm water. Then use this solution to wash your hair and gently massage it around the scalp for 10 minutes. Once this is done then the water should be rinsed off. Repeat this twice a week.

Warm Oil Massage

This method can be very effective to reduce the itchiness and dryness of the scalp. Different type of healthy oils such as coconut oil or olive oil can be used in this process. Use one-fourth cup of olive oil or coconut oil and warm it up. Gently massage the warm oil into the scalp for 10 minutes, using a comb if needed to work the oil into your hair. The next morning, your hair should be washed with a mild shampoo. Repeat this simple remedy thrice a week.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel is also a very good remedy for treating scabs. It helps in easing the pain and itchiness and also protects the scabs from getting infected. Cut open a leaf of the aloe vera and remove the gel. Use your fingers in order to spread the fresh aloe vera gel into the sores and scabs on your scalp and then leave it on for at least an hour. Wash off your hair with a mild shampoo and repeat this 3 times a week.

Tea tree oil

Consisting of powerful natural antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, this oil can be used to treat the itchiness associated with scabs on the scalp. Mix about 10 drops of this oil into a quarter cup of almond oil. Make a mixture from these oils and then massage it onto your scalp and let it be for around 5minutes. Then you can wash it off with shampoo as usual. Also if you wish to wash your hair daily then you can add 10-20 drops of tea tree oil to a cup of baby shampoo and use it every day.

Jojoba oil

Since this oil is very rich in anti-fungal compounds it can be used for the treatment of scabs. Before you go to bed you can put a small amount of this il on your scalp and massage it around for a couple of minutes. Leave the oil on your scalp overnight and then wash it off the next morning with a mild shampoo. This remedy is advised to be repeated once or twice every week.
