How to educate an introvert child?

Introvert, extrovert, and ambivert are the three main classifications for a person in terms of their pace in socialization with other people. Introverts are the ones who take longer to talk freely to people or avoid such conversations totally. In case of classroom following are the guidelines for educating an introvert child:

Never Tag Them As Sensitive or Moody

The problem with the majority of the people is that they consider introvert people as flawed or someone who tends to have some mental illness to be in hibernation or isolation for a long period of time. The reality according to Psychologists is that introverts are creative people but need a little extra time to mingle up with the environment around them.

Thus, it is important to respect an introvert student and in this case, the teacher plays a very important role. She should give such a student time to learn or adjust to the topic and appreciate his/ her own persona. No teacher should tag or demoralize an introvert child while being an educator to them

Motivate them to Bring Out Their Best

Motivation plays an important role for an introvert to learn any subject faster. Try and appreciate the small things they do and the attempts they make while learning something. This can be for any subject from maths to any language or even sciences. Motivation acts as an important stimulus for introvert students than anyone else. This makes them feel they are important and their views matter. Slowly and steadily they will start participating in the classroom more actively just like the petals of a flower which open one by one.

Talk To Them Personally

Introverts may be as they are due to their nature or due to some conditioning or upbringing that they are given. It is necessary to understand that they do not have much exposure to socializing and talking much to the people. You as an educator can take the lead and develop positive communication skills by talking one-on-one sometimes. This shall help get exposure to some problems of the child better as the child starts feeling secure and happy in the teacher's company.

Independent Work Time to Group One

If you observe that they are a few students who are slightly introvert in nature avoid group-based work in the beginning. Try and do some activities that involve independent work which can be drawing, writing a creative piece, reading on your own, etc. After some weeks, you can observe the child feeling comfortable in the classroom and shift in the activities can be made to pair or group based ones.

Allow them to Participate in Peculiar Activities

This mainly comprising sports, arts, public speaking, etc. and will help them break the taboo that introverts cannot do well and perform at a much lower level than the others. Participation can allow them to slowly develop leadership skills and build relations with others.
