Difference between Amazon Drive and Box

With the latest development in Information Technology, we found some new ways to store data which tremendously decreased the cost. It is quite astounding to think that we have moved on from Punched Cards to Clouds in such a brief period. Of course, the exponential growth in the IT sector helped this to make a reality. At the same time, as more and more cloud services are appearing in the market, it is becoming quite tiresome to find the best service out there. In this article, we will differentiate two cloud services, namely, Amazon Drive and Box.

Amazon Drive

Amazon Drive is a cloud storage service launched by Amazon in 2011, it’s a very safe and secure cloud infrastructure which is well designed and reliable using S3 services (same as many cloud companies that use it to store data). The drive leverages resources from AWS (Amazon Web Services) and is built on top of it.

  • They offer 5 GB of free storage which can be upgraded on payment and is built into Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Video application.

  • Amazon Drive enables users to have features like cloud storage, file sharing and photo printing (Applicable only in specific countries).

  • It even has multilingual support which enables users all across the globe to use it in their regional language.

  • Data can be accessed and transferred from multiple devices including mobile applications and desktop web browsers.

  • Amazon Drive is compatible with almost all devices including mac and windows. Though it has many of the mentioned merits they also have some demerits.

  • Amazon Drive can only be used for personal and non-commercial uses, one cannot use it for commercial purposes or any businesses.

  • Amazon does not provide automatic file synchronisation/backup on the web, disabling people from accessing their latest desktop version of all their documents and images.

Amazon Drive's services are unavailable in certain countries/zones.

Box

The Box was founded in 2005 by Aaron Levie, Dylan Smith, Jeff Queisser and Sam Ghods. Unlike Amazon Drive, it stores data in file-level storage.

  • It has two types of accounts: Individual & Teams Plans and Business plans. For the individual and teams plan, the maximum storage offered is 100 GB. On the other hand, the maximum storage offered for business plans is unlimited.

  • It also allows up to 10 users to use an account in the starter pack and an entire organisation in business packs and enterprise packs.

  • It has 256-bit AES encryption, and any communication between Box and the user is secured via an SSL connection to keep our files safe. It offers password protection for the links shared that helps the user control the sharing and activity of links.

  • It also has integrations with many third parties, especially Office365 and GSuite, which is quite helpful. Unfortunately, it can sync files stored in a specific folder and cannot back up the entire system.

Unfortunately, it can only work in newer operating systems across Android, MacOS, IOS and Windows.
