Can you suggest some Diwali outfits for me? I don't wish to wear a kurta.

Diwali is the festival of lights. Since it has a lot of mythological stories associated with it, people usually wear traditional clothes on this day. Laxmi Pooja is a very sacred pooja done on Diwali too, so everyone loves to wear something bright which portrays celebration and joy.

While kurtas may probably be the most commonly worn cloth on such an occasion, some other suggested Diwali outfits for women would be as follows:

  • Lehnga: Nowadays the market is filled with different lehnga designs like paneled lehnga, A-line lehnga, Fish cut lehenga, Sharara lehnga and so on. One may buy them ready made or may even purchase a dress material and get them styled as per one’s own wish.

  • Salwar Suit: One of the most comfortable yet traditional outfits is salwar suit. Punjabi Patiala suits or flared Anarkali suits are usually the choice of females in festive season. Again these can be bought readymade or be stylised and designed as per one’s own liking.

  • Sarees: These are the all-time favorite for most of the women. Sarees never go wrong with any body type and even any age of women.

  • Long Skirts: Ethnic dresses like jacketed blouse with a long flared skirt is both smart and traditional look. Different tops can also be worn with long skirts.

  • Sharara: Shararas was the fad of the recent past and now the attire's popularity has again got momentum. The trend has repeated itself and girls are hunting the market for this beautiful robe. These may also be apt for such a festive mood.

  • Shirt with Middi: For the smart classy women, who do not feel comfortable in an ethnic wear, short shirts with middis may not be a bad idea.

While a lot of options have been suggested, it depends upon one’s choice and preference as to what one wants to wear.
