Can tonsils be treated at home?


Tonsils are very contagious disease and it can spread from one person to another very quickly. The Tonsils bacteria is transmitted to others from the victims through coughing or sneezing. This is one of the primary reasons why you need to get tonsils treated immediately. Medical treatment is one option for curing this or we can also treat tonsils by using certain home remedies as discussed below.

Saltwater

This is probably one of the most common home remedies that are used. Gargling with warm water with salt added to it gives the throat instant relief and a soothing feel. Take a cup of warm water and add a spoon of salt. Gargle the water and spit it out but do not swallow the water. You can keep repeating this during the day until you get proper relief.

Lemon

Since lemon has many antibacterial and antiviral properties it can help in the treatment of the bacteria in the tonsils. In order to use the lemon for treating your tonsils, you should add some lemon to a glass of lukewarm water and then add a pinch of salt and a spoon of honey. Drink this mixture around 2 times a day and it will give you some relief. If you want to directly use the lemon without mixing it in water then you can sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper on the lemon slice and suck on it.

Basil

Basil leaves help in speeding up the process of recovery from tonsillitis due to its antiviral properties. In order to use basil leaves first, you will need to boil the leaves in a cup of water and then add one lemon juice into the solution. You can use honey if you want to sweeten your drink. This gives you a faster recovery if you drink it on a regular basis every day.

Turmeric

Turmeric has always been used as a part of home remedies for a long time. It has a lot of healing properties and gives relief to the person from irritating symptoms such as a cough and itchiness. To use turmeric we should boil a cup of water and add one spoon of powder made from turmeric. Gargle with this water every day then it will reduce the inflammations that are being caused in your throat and gives a soothing feeling. Another way in which you can use turmeric is by mixing it in hot milk along with grounded black pepper. Drinking this before sleeping will give relief to the throat region.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is rich in antimicrobial properties and it prevents the further growth of any bacteria in the tonsils and it helps in the reduction of the swelling. Add a spoon of cinnamon powder to a glass of hot water and add some honey to it. Make sure that the solution is still warm when you’re drinking it so that maximum relief is provided from the drink.

Mint

Mint is known to have powers to effectively kill bacteria inside a human body. The menthol that is present in the mint relieves itchiness that is caused due to the excess of mucus and other pains in the throat. Add some mint leaves into boiling water and let it boil until the water becomes half the quantity it originally was. Now that the flavor of the mint leaf has been emulsified into the water you can add a spoon of honey to it and drink it. You can also gargle with mint mouthwash to gain some relief.
