6 Dos and Don’ts for Treating Teen Acne
Acne is a very common skin condition among teens and adults. Acne is a skin situation when the small hair glands get clogged due to dead skin cells and oil growth. Acne can be of different types, like pimples, blackheads, nodules, whiteheads, etc. Like adults, teens also can suffer from different types of acne.
What are the Causes of Teen Acne?
Human skin contains oil, and when kids reach puberty, the androgens hormone starts increasing in the body. The excess hormone keeps the oil glands overactive and pores become enlarged. The oil glands start producing excess oils and it blocks the skin pores.
These block pores become infected and cause a red spot on the skin. Teens can suffer from blackheads while the pore clogs remain open. You can notice a blackish appearance due to oxidation.
Probable Symptoms of Skin Acne
At present more than 85% of teenagers suffer from this acne. Teens can suffer from acne problems and can face the following symptoms.
Your skin pores can get clogged and cause a breakout of pimples.
Acne can develop lesions
Sometimes lesions can get developed with pus
Teens can also suffer from cysts.
Do’s and Don’ts during Acne Treatment
Suffering from acne is extremely irritating, and the situation can vary between persons. Teens mainly suffer from acne due to hormonal changes. Doctors suggest consulting with dermatologists to get the best treatment. Here all can check the things to do while teens are suffering from acne.
Select mild cleanser − Doctors always suggest to users non-abrasive cleansers and warm water clean the face. You need to wash your face with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water twice a day. Washing your face before sleep is extremely important. Hence it is sufficient to wash your face once in the morning and once at night. It is also suggested not to wash your face very often as it can drain the moisture off your face.
Never use over-the-counter medication − Many are likely to buy over-the-counter medications to treat acne. But this can cause more problems to your skin. As per experts, if teens are suffering from acne for a long time, it can take at least four to eight weeks to use proper medicines.
Lotions and gels can work better on mild acne, and these can reduce the bacteria. However, in case of severe acne problems, doctors recommend oral acne medication to get the best result.
Doctors also suggest using the medications as per the doctor’s recommendation.
Remove makeup before sleep − Removal of makeup is necessary before you sleep. It is always necessary to use a mild cleanser to remove the makeup to stay away from acne. If you don’t clean the make up, it will clog the skin pores, and acne will come out.
Again, it is also suggested not to use too much make-up than your requirement during the day. It is also necessary to use make up from recognized brands so that it will not cause any skin problems.
Drink ample water − Water is necessary to keep the body and skin hydrated and hence doctors always suggest drinking ample water to stay away from health hazards. Adequate water consumption can help in enhancing the immune system and it will restrain certain bacteria from causing acne.
Again, adequate water consumption will help in regulating blood circulation and helps in releasing toxins from the body. The more toxins released, the lower will be the chances for acne. A sufficient water supply in the body helps to maintain skin health by protecting the skin microbiome.
Don’t be harsh on the skin − Pimples or acne can easily get cured using doctor’s prescribed medications. Hence it is suggested not to be harsh on your skin and never pick your pimples. Again, one should be extremely careful while choosing skin care products.
Select the products which will not irritate your skin
Never excess scrub or rub your skin
One should avoid resting hands on the skin for a long time
One should avoid picking or squeezing pimples to avoid scratches on the skin
Use Sunscreen
Excess exposure to the sun can worsen acne and other skin conditions. You may like to enjoy a hot day at the beach or water park; this can damage your skin and increase the chances of acne. Hence doctors are suggested to use water-based sunscreen to stay protected from harmful UV Rays. It is suggested to apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or of higher range.
Above all, it is always suggested to consult a dermatologist before the acne worsens.
Conclusion
Like adults, teens can also suffer from acne due to changes in hormones, medications, etc. Sometimes acne can get healed normally, but if acne persists for a long time, consulting with a dermatologist will be the best option. Besides, teens should follow the guidelines mentioned above to stay away from the harsh effects of acne.
