The lid of a rectangular box of sides $ 40 \mathrm{~cm} $ by $ 10 \mathrm{~cm} $ is sealed all round with tape. What is the length of the tape required?

Given:

The lid of a rectangular box of sides $40 \mathrm{~cm}$ by $10 \mathrm{~cm}$ is sealed all round with tape.

To do:

We have to find the length of the tape required.

Solution:

We know that,

Perimeter of a rectangle of length $l$ and breadth $b$ is $2(l+b)$

Tape is sealed around the rectangular box.

Length $=40\ cm$ and breadth $=10\ cm$

Therefore,

The perimeter of the given rectangular box $= 2 (l+b)$

$= 2 (40+10)$

$= 2(50)$

$= 100\ cm$

Therefore the length of the required tape is $100\ cm$.
