A lid of a rectangular box of sides 40 cm by 10 cm is sealed all around with tape such that there is an overlapping of 5 cm of the tape. What is the length of the tape used?

Given :

The length of the rectangle (l)$= 40 cm$.

The breadth of the rectangle (b)$= 10 cm$.

The box is sealed with tape such that overlapping of 5 cm of the tape.

To do :

We have to find the length of the tape used.

Solution :

The perimeter of the rectangle $=2(l+b)$

                                                       $= 2(40+10)$

                                                      $= 2(50) = 100 cm$.

The tape used in overlapping used $= 5 cm$.

Total length of the tape $= 100 + 5 = 105 cm$.

Therefore, the length of the tape used is 105 cm.
