Why We Cannot Taste The Food Properly While Having Cold

While eating and chewing food, the aroma of our food travels through our nasal area.

If the nasal channel is blocked, such as when your nose is blocked by a cold or flu, odours can't reach sensory cells in the nose that are stimulated by smells. So, our brain is not able to tell us about the flavour of the foods that we are having. As a result, you lose much of our enjoyment of flavour. Without smell, foods tend to taste bland and have little or no flavour.
