Mitigation means reducing the risk of loss from the occurrence of any undesirable event.

Drought is defined as little or no precipitation over a large geographical area for a prolonged period of time.It may last from part of a season to several years. Impacts may range from municipal water use restrictions, stress on fish species, loss of crops and poor agricultural productivity, etc.

Drought mitigation aims :

  • To create response plans before the droughts hits a place.
  • To increase the overall preparedness to address new or unanticipated impacts as and when they arise.
