What is silviculture? What are its advantages?

Silviculture is the science for establishing, growing, and maintaining the health and quality of forests and woody habitat for the betterment of various stakeholders and organisms residing in the forest.

 Advantages of Silviculture are:

(i) Establishment of a forest helps in producing the raw materials for the industries dependant on wood such as timber, sports equipment and the paper industry.

(ii) It expands the forest cover, thereby assist in wildlife conservation.

(iii) It helps to maintain balance in the water cycle.

(iv) It prevents soil erosion keeping the top soil intact, thereby prevents flood.
