What are consecutive angles and alternate angles?

Consecutive Angles:

When two lines are crossed by another line, the pairs of angles on one side of the transversal but inside the two lines are called Consecutive Interior Angles.

In the diagram 3 and 5 ; 4 and 6 are alternate interior angles.

Alternate Angles:

Alternate Interior Angles are a pair of angles on the inner side of each of those two lines but on opposite sides of the transversal.

In the diagram 3 and 6 ; 4 and 5 are alternate interior angles. If the two lines are parallel, then alternate interior angles are equal.
