Rahul pins on a cardboard 25 cm long and 14 cm wide such that there is a margin of 2.5 cm along each of its side. Find the total area of the margin.
Given:
Rahul pins on a cardboard 25 cm long and 14 cm wide such that there is a margin of 2.5 cm along each of its side.
To do:
We have to find the total area of the margin.
Solution:
We know that,
The area of a rectangle of length $l$ and breadth $b$ is $lb$.
Therefore,
Area of the cardboard $=25\times14\ cm^2=350\ cm^2$.
Length of the cardboard including the margin $=25+2.5=27.5\ cm$.
Breadth of the cardboard including the margin $=14+2.5=16.5\ cm$.
Area of the room cardboard including the margin $=27.5\times16.5\ cm^2=453.75\ cm^2$.
This implies,
Area of the margin $=$ Area of the cardboard including the margin $-$ Area of the cardboard excluding margin
$=(453.75-350)\ cm^2$
$=103.75\ cm^2$
The total area of the margin is $103.75\ cm^2$.
