If 225 students appear in an examination. Among them 4:5 ratio of students passed in first and second division. If 25 students passed in third division and 29 students failed then find 1. Number of students passed in first and second division.2. Find the ratio of students passed in first, second and third division.
Given:
Total number of students = 225
4:5 ratio of students passed in the first and second division.
25 students passed in the third division and 29 students failed
To do: Find 1) and 2)
Solution:
Students passed in first division = $4 x$
Students passed in second division = $5 x$
Students passed in third division = 25
Students failed in exam = 29
Students passed in first division $+$ Students passed in second division $+$ Students passed in third division $+$ Students failed in exam = Total number of students
$4 x + 5 x + 25 + 29 = 225$
$9 x + 54 = 225$
$9 x = 225 - 54$
$9 x = 171$
$x = \frac{171}{ 9}$
$x = 19$
Students passed in first division = $4 x = 4 (19) = 76$
Students passed in second division = $5 x = 5 (19) = 95$
Ratio of students passed in first , second and third division = 76 : 95 : 25
