Find the sum of the following by column method:$2x^2- y^2$ and $3x^2+5y^2$

Given :

The given terms are $2x^2- y^2$ and $3x^2+5y^2$.

To do :

We have to find the sum of the given terms by column method.

Solution :

The column method is a mathematical method of calculation where the numbers to be added or subtracted are set out above one another in columns. The calculation is done by 'carrying' and 'borrowing' numbers from column to column.

Column-IColumn-II
$x^2$$y^2$
$2+3$$-1+5$
$=5x^2$$=4y^2$

 $2x^2- y^2 + 3x^2+5y^2 = 5x^2+4y^2$.

Therefore the sum of  $2x^2- y^2$ and $3x^2+5y^2$ is $5x^2 + 4y^2$.
