Find the HCF of the following pair of numbers:
75 and 243

Given: 75 and 243.

To find: Here we have to find the HCF of the given numbers.

Solution:

Using Euclid's division algorithm to find HCF:

Using Euclid’s lemma to get:
  • $243\ =\ 75\ \times\ 3\ +\ 18$

Now, consider the divisor 75 and the remainder 18, and apply the division lemma to get:
  • $75\ =\ 18\ \times\ 4\ +\ 3$

Now, consider the divisor 18 and the remainder 3, and apply the division lemma to get:
  • $18\ =\ 3\ \times\ 6\ +\ 0$

The remainder has become zero, and we cannot proceed any further.

Therefore the HCF of 243 and 75 is the divisor at this stage, i.e., 3.

So, HCF of 75 and 243 is 3.
