Define genetics. Why is decrease in the number of surviving tigers a cause of concern from the point of view of genetics? Explain briefly.
The science of heredity, inheritance of characters from one generation to another, and variations is known as genetics.
Reduction in the number of surviving tigers is a cause of concern because the decrease in the number of tigers leads to fewer variations and loss of genes responsible for the adaption to the specific environment. As the tigers fail to adapt to the change in the environment due to loss in variations, they can become extinct.
