A number is chosen at the random from the numbers $-3,\ -2,\ -1,\ 0,\ 1,\ 2,\ 3$. What will be the probability that square of this number is less than or equal to 1.

Given: A number is chosen at the random from the numbers $-3,\ -2,\ -1,\ 0,\ 1,\ 2,\ 3$.

To do: To find the probability that square of this number is less than or equal to 1.

Solution:
Here total 7 numbers are given from -3 to +3;

$\therefore$ Total no. of possible outcomes$=7$

Condition for probability $=$ square of number is $< 1\ or = 1$;

$( -1)^2 = 1$

$(0)^2 = 0$

$(1)^2 = 1$

Thus, only there are three possible outcomes based on the given condition ;

$\therefore$ probability of the given condition $=\frac{Total\ no.\ of\ favorable\ outcomes}{Total\ no.\ possible\ outcomes}=\frac{3}{7}$
