A bullet of mass $ 50 \mathrm{~g} $ moving with an initial velocity of $ 100 \mathrm{~m} \mathrm{~s}^{-1} $, strikes a wooden block and comes to rest after penetrating a distance $ 2 \mathrm{~cm} $ in it. Calculate initial momentum of the bullet.

Mass  of the bullet $m=50\ g=\frac{50}{1000}\ kg.=0.05\ kg.$

Initial velocity $u=100\ ms^{-1}$

Distance $s=2\ cm=\frac{2}{100}=0.02\ m$

Final velocity $v=0$

Therefore, the initial momentum of the bullet $=mu$

$=0.05\ kg\times100\ ms^{-1}$

$=5\ kg.ms^{-1}$
