A chloroplast is a green-colored plastid that contains the green-colored photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll. Chloroplasts are an important and exclusive property of autotrophic organisms or green-colored plants. Chlorophyll is the green-colored pigment found in plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. It is present in the thylakoid membranes inside the chloroplast. Chlorophyll is an important pigment for the process of photosynthesis. It absorbs light to provide energy for photosynthesis to occur.
Function of Chloroplast:
- Bioenergy and light absorption. Photosynthesis creates NAPDH2 and O2. Photosynthesis creates ATP. Photosynthesis generates ATP and NADPH2. The dark reaction transfers CO2 from the air to five carbon sugars.
- The 6-carbon complex is assimilated into two phosphoglyceric acid molecules. PGA converts to sugar and starch. Plants' kitchens are chloroplasts. Vegetarians are heterotrophs.
- All plant cells are immune without specialized immune cells. Chloroplasts, the nucleus, the cell membrane, and ER defend against pathogens.
- Chloroplasts photosynthesis. Sugar nourishes. Photosynthesis creates sugar and oxygen from light, water, and CO2.
- Phycobilisome membranes are photoreactive. Like mitochondria, chloroplasts produce ATP via the H+ ion gradient.
- Chloroplast stroma contains the Calvin cycle. Photosynthesis generates NADPH2 and O2. The 6-carbon atom is assimilated into two phosphoglyceric acid molecules.
