Correct Answer:

1. The process of the fusion of the gametes. Fertilization

6. The type of fertilization in hen. Internal

7. The term used for bulges observed on the sides of the body of hydra. Buds

8. Eggs are produced here. Ovary

Down

3. Another term for in vitro fertilization. IVF

4. These animals lay eggs. Oviparous

5. A type of fission in amoeba. Binary

Explanation:

Fertilization is the process in which the nuclei of the egg and sperm unite together in the fallopian tube to form a single-celled zygote.

Internal Fertilization: Fertilization takes place inside the female's body. Male gametes are deposited inside or near the female's reproductive tract and fertilization occurs inside the organ. Animals with an internal fertilization process live entirely on land.

Examples: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles, etc.

In botany, buds are the young, small swelling or outgrowth on an underdeveloped stem or branch of a plant that is ready to develop into a flower. Buds usually arise from meristem tissue.

An ovary is an important reproductive organ in the female reproductive system. The function of the ovary is to produce one egg every month. It is also responsible for the production of female hormones.

Testis:  Two functions performed by testes in human beings are:

(i) Formation of sperms

(ii) Secretion of the hormone testosterone to regulate the formation of sperm and are responsible for developing secondary sexual characteristics in boys during puberty.

Oviparous organisms lay eggs, and viviparous organisms never lay eggs. Examples of oviparous organisms are frogs, snakes, lizards, ducks, sharks, penguins, octopuses, etc., and examples of viviparous organisms are cats, dogs, humans, etc.

In asexual reproduction, the offspring arises from a single type of parent and does not involve the fertilization process. Binary fission is a method of asexual reproduction.

In binary fission, the parent cell gets split into two halves. Each half forms identical daughter cells of the same size. Binary fission takes place in unicellular organisms. It is observed in amoeba, paramecium, and trypanosome.

The cell of an Amoeba starts dividing after attaining its maximum size. The nucleus of the cell divides first, followed by the cytoplasm. Thus, the single cell divides into two identical cells.
